Hello! I'm a TV, Internet, and Radio Meteorologist and a homegrown Franklin County, Virginia native. I currently work for myself as a streaming meteorologist for local and now national weather events. I started giving weather reports any way I could find, hanging printed forecasts up in middle & high school. I've worked with Cable 12 in Franklin Co. since the age of 15 (first volunteering). Along the way, of course I studied to become a meteorologist, all while keeping focused on a career in weather and forecasting. I've worked at several local TV stations in the Roanoke - Lynchburg TV Market, from the large affiliate stations to smaller local stations and radio stations. I've been known to pop up on Network TV every now and then. Beyond TV, I sought out social media - Facebook and Twitter as one of the first area meteorologists to develop a regular online presence in 2009. I also continue to explore YouTube, Instagram, SnapChat, Patreon, and TikTok for new and exciting ways to communicate the forecast with the public. I also have a respect for the work that goes on behind the scenes to make TV happen. I'm an avid photojournalist and writer, Editing and shooting also fascinate me. Most important I am a Christian and I'm not perfect. I am blessed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the power of forgiveness that HE has shown me repeatedly over the years. I'm not ashamed at all to share this with anyone! His Love for me - I honestly believe - has kept me going after battling addiction, anxiety, depression, a horrific car accident all while in the public eye. I'm always learning new tricks and techniques that apply to making an accurate forecast. Despite my social anxiety I'm thankful to God that forecasts are never perfect. I'm a scientist but when I give a forecast or post a prediction, I try to put myself in the average person's position. I add descriptive words and icons to my 7-day forecast rather than just giving out a graphic with icons and numbers. I forecast rotation, air mass changes, upper level energy, cloud layers, wind gusts, and precip modes (soaking rain or showers, or isolated) I show and explain all layers of the atmosphere that impact the forecast, instead of just showing surface maps in a way that makes common sense to anyone. Any forecast that busts is an opportunity to learn something new! I keep records of the weather including the good forecasts and the predictions that failed for post analysis.
